Teachers gifts

 

I mentioned yesterday that I had some cards I was making.  I got the idea from two blogs I have been seeing.  One idea was because a lady was making stamps out of the sticky foam sheets she bought from a craft store.  After getting her children involved she had the idea to get the kids to make cards for the teachers they will be having this year. 

I loved the idea of making cards for the teachers.  What a nice way to say hello and start off the school year than to make cards.  These were so easy to make. 

I only made these two but I plan on making about 5 for each teacher.  I will have two in school this year.  My oldest will be in 2nd grade and my middle man is starting kindergarten.  I am so excited for him, myself and so sad to have my middle man gone all day long.

The funny thing they do here in South Dakota (or maybe just our school district) is have the kindergartners only go to school for 2 days the first week.  We start school on a Tuesday and should be getting a letter with teachers names and also telling us if my middle son will be starting school on Tuesday or Wednesday.  If he starts school on Tuesday than both my boys will have the same first day and middle man will only go Tuesday and Thursday.  If the letter says my middle mans first day of school is Wednesday then he will go on Wednesday and Friday.  They call it get to know you week or something like that.  After that it is Monday through Friday like the rest of the grades. 

So, the cards are fairly self-explanatory.  I used PTI's Vintage Cream cardstock.  Stamped the apple image in pure poppy, simply chartruese, and momento ink, rich cocoa.  The image is PTI, except the work, that is imaginisce.

I had the idea for the border thanks to Lorie at Live-Laugh-Love-Create.  I just used a regular black writing pen and a ruler.

I hope their teachers love it and I am so excited to have a paper craft on my blog once again.

Sad day...

Today is a sad day for me.  I am sure to shed some tears.  I cannot believe it is here already.  Today is the day that my oldest son becomes an big boy.  No longer is he a kindergartner but he will be in 1st grade.  When did this happen?  Really?  Everyday I look at him and he does something so sweet and shows me he is getting older.  Of course we are still struggling with discipline but that will take some time I am sure.

We will be attending a kindergarten program since they do not have graduations here.  My son has already told me that they are singing songs and that I will cry.  I am sure I will.

I wanted to do something nice for his teacher but with a small budget.  I already showed you the spa-like gift I did for her but it just didnt feel like enough, especially with all the things she has done for my son and all the other kids in her class.I got her a candle and decided to take an idea on saw on a blog and twist it to my capabilities.  I am not sure of the blog I got it from but I will search later and link to it.

My sister was kind enough to let me have a small mason jar and use some etching cream to etch an apple in the mason jar.  I then took some pebbles I got from Michael's a long time ago, put them in a plastic cup and used my simply chartruese reinker.  I just put about 5 drops in the cup and mixed it all up until all the pebbles were pretty coated.  I poured them out on a napkin and let them dry overnight.  Then I just put them in the mason jar and then stuck the candle in as well.

The tag was pretty simple.  I don't have much more time, I need to get breakfast and such before I need to run off again for the program.  I will try to add more to this post later.

Birthday

Happy Thursday all!!! I am so glad that the week is coming to a close. It has been a hectic short week but seems to be flying by as well. I can't believe tomorrow is Friday already. I do have to say that I am so grateful that my husband has a very kind and thoughtful co-worker. Thanks to her offering a ride to my husband today and last night I was able to get dinner going so we didn't have too late of a dinner and I was able to get a little extra sleep this morning and so did, well, one of our boys. The other seems to think it is fun to wake up early in the morning.

This card is already quite late and I still need to make another for my step-niece that had a birthday on the same day. I made this card for my younger sister. As we got older her and I have grown really close and very good friends. I go to her for some things that I may have questions about. It might have something to do with surviving a horrible car accident together but I think that only solidified our friendship. We were becoming good friends before that.

Since she works and doesn't have time to read my blog I am going to share with you her age. Which is kinda bad for me because she is my younger sister but I am pretty sure I have shared my age with you all anyway. Besides, age is just a number, right? My wonderful, hard working sister is a mother of 3 precious children, one of which I still need to meet and will be turning one when I have my newest baby, and a wife to a good man. She turned 29 on the 6th of this month and I just can't believe how the time has gone.

The tree stamp I used I just had to get when I saw it at Michael's during my shopping trip with my mom. I have seen several images like this and just love them. Since it was only 1.49 I just couldn't pass it up. It was my mom's idea to add the rhinestones where the flowers are and I just love how it looks. The circle is a coaster that I used my nestabilities to cut out the center to make a type of border for the tree image.

My sisters favorite color is green so I knew I had to add that color in the card and since tree bark is brown I wanted to use that as an accent color. But I wanted to try one more color and decided on...shoot, I am not sure if it is Hibiscus burst or melon berry. I think melon berry but not sure. I didn't like the color combo after putting it all together but now it is growing on me and I hope she likes it.
