Dude!!!

 

Happy Monday!!!  I am happy to say I actually have something to share with everyone today.

My oldest had a birthday party to go to on Saturday and I am glad because it made me get to crafting.  I have a niece whose birthday is next week so I need to get busy making her card as well (thankfully I already bought her present.  Now I just have to get it in the mail  :D )

On the invitation they had pictures of "The Transformers", "Wolverine", "Super Mario Brothers", and "The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles".

When I thought about card ideas I wanted to do something to mach the idea behind the party.  That is when I remembered my surfing turtle stamps from Our Craft Lounge.  His name is Kona and I thought he would be so cute to go along with the mutant turtle pictures.  If memory serves me correctly the mutant turtle skateboard not surf but close enough, right?

I actually saw this same, sorta, layout on another blog but there are so many blogs and it was so long ago that I can't remember where.  If you have seen it please feel free to let me know so I can give credit where credit is due.

Two for the price of one

Today I am doing something unusal for me.  Showing you two cards in one post.  I feel guilty that I haven't posted anything new in a while.  Here is why that is.  After the hubby's schedule calmed down I started with my migraines and the next day it went into something else.  I thought I had a bought of strep but according to the test done this morning that is not the case.  Some kind of viral thing that may have lead into a sinus infection.  So much fun dealing with all of this stuff, a child in school, a very rambuntious 5 year old and a 14 month old that is just about to start walking.  Yep, my two younger ones are late bloomers.  But that is fine with me.  The longer they take to walk the longer they get to be my baby's and the less time I have 3 boys running around my house.  And since my baby is my last I want him to stay that way for as long as possible. So the cards: they are late birthday cards for one nephew and one niece.  I have a whopping 4 nieces and 2 nephews.  That makes 9 grandchildren for my parents.  I love it.  This is for my nephew who turned...um...oh this is sad...he is 2 and had is birthday all the way back in February.  I know, I am an awful aunt.The card base is blueberry sky and the PP is from My Mind's Eye, I just love it.  I used some DMC floss and then the kraft cardstock was cut out using a Labels 4 nestie.  The dinosaur was stamped with versamark and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  I wasn't going to color him in but couldn't help myself.  Now, I wish I hadn't but it is too late now, the card is on it's way.Oh, the dinosaur is a stamp set from Our Craft Lounge.

This card was made for my now 15 year old niece (the oldest of the grandchildren).  She loves anything anime and does a great job drawing as well.  I thought this Greeting Farm stamp was perfect for her.  The blue is felt I picked up at Hobby Lobby for a whopping .25 cents.  The PP is some that I won from a blog.  Thanks Wendy.

Well, I am not feeling 100% still so I am going to leave you with that.  Hopefully I can get some down time to read or create.  I so want to do more creating.  I have so many ideas in my head not energy to get them out.

Monkeying around

Hello everyone!!!  It is another Monday.  I am determined to make this a good week.  The weekend was wonderful.  I got to spend another weekend with my parents and some shopping with my mom, sister and my niece.  It was really fun and I hope to do it again very soon.

Well, as some of you may have guessed it is the week that I get to participate in the Whimsy challenge.  I am excited about this one because it is a sketch challenge.  Sketches can be difficult for me to come up with.  That is why I always have Friday sketchers and CPS sketch blogs on my favorites list.

This card is made using the Whimsy monkey that is absolutely adorable.  I colored in some of him with copics, kohr-i-noor pencils and some sparkly fluff.  I just love it.

As always we would love to see what you can come up with this sketch.  And as always, we do not require you to use a whimsy stamp but if you have it we would love to see it.

Kona rocks!!!

Wooohooo!!! I am on a roll. Another post in a row. Craziness. I am just making a point to get something done for all you wonderful people that come to my blog.

I wanted to start off by saying that today is a sad day. Not really but to my mommy heart it is. We had a bit of a confusing issue the passed couple of days but it got figured out. Today my husband checked on my son's teacher. The school here posts a note on the library window with a list of all the teachers and who is in the classes. We found out my son's teacher. It isn't the teacher we were hoping for and I know nothing about his teacher so it will be interesting. I just hope and pray that they are a good match and he has some wonderful kids in his class. We are one step closer to him starting school and another step closer to my son getting older. I know it is going to happen. I can't prevent it. What mom in her right mind would literally want her kids to stop progressing, right? To me this just seems to be a big step in motherhood after the toddler years. Something that is hard because instead of helping our children to this next step we have to let them go and let someone else take over. But I know we both need it and I am excited for him and my youngest son. My youngest because now he gets a few hours a day with me alone. It will be fun to get to know my youngest son even better.

Okay, back to our regularly scheduled program. I realized I haven't played with Kona from Our Craft Lounge in a long time. I stamped and colored him in and then decided I was going to make a scrapbook page of the last time we went to Sunset Beach with my parents. I am not good with scrapbook page layouts. I love to scrapbook but find it easier to make a card instead.

My goal was to look around some blogs and such and get a layout idea and then go from there. Well, I only have a few pictures so I had planned to make the page and add the pictures later. but after looking at the layouts I liked I realized that I actually need the pictures when I make the page so I scrapped that idea.

Instead I went to Card Positioning Systems knowing I could find something to do with Kona. Guess what? I did :)

This card has a bunch of elements to it and I love it. It isn't over done but it has a lot of things to grab the eye. I think it turned out wonderfully. Do you think I am getting my mojo back? Well, kinda because I still need help with layouts, but that is okay.

The card base is a scrap of PTI Pure Poppy and then layered on some rustic cream which I love so I better get busy on ordering some more. The PP is from Me & My big ideas. I just love that paper to go with Kona. Kona was stamped using Staz-On ink on rustic cream, colored using Koh-I-Noor pencils and sponged with PTI Ripe Avocado (Oh my goodness, who doesn't love avocados? I so need some but they are expensive here, lol) as well and sponged with Stampin' Ups bliss blue ink.

The buttons were threaded with DMC floss in the ripe avocado variety and glued on. The "sentiment" was stamped individually on ripe avocado and rustic cream cardstock. The sand rake I had in my stash of buttons from Wal-Mart (I think) and the shells are real shells I picked up during our first visit to Sunset Beach. I just love the extra element the shells give. Well, I believe that is it for now.

Dude!!!

Happy Friday everyone!!! I hope you all have wonderful plans for the weekend. We have a few things planned and later today I will be traveling to my family's home town for my niece's 8th grade graduation. I cannot believe she will be in High School next school year. That is just way too crazy. Especially considering that when she was born I was graduating from High School myself. Does time really go by that fast? Actually, I saw something a long time ago. It cracks me up every time I think of it too. Here goes, "Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end the faster it goes". Hehehe It truly is funny as so accurate.

Okay so for today I am just inching in on a sketch challenge that Lorie is hosting for LimeLIGHT. I hope you all got a chance to play along. I just got to get my card finished last night after a meeting I had to attend.

I used my new wonderful set for the first time from Our Craft Lounge called Hangin' Loose with Kona. Isn't he just the cutest thing. I fell for him the minute I saw him and since he is exclusive to Eclectic Paperie and only for a limited time I HAD to snatch him up right away.

Dyno-mite

Just a quick little post for now. I will be back later for the Papertrey Ink blog hop. I hope you guys get a chance to join in on the fun too.

I just have to say first off. Am I the only one that thinks of the Jefferson's and J.J. when you here that (Dino-mite)? I am probably showing off my age now. I used to love those shows. I wish they still had some of the family shows on TV now instead of what they are showing now. I feel like I can't let my kids watch anything anymore.

The card was made using a new OCL (Our Craft Lounge) stamp. This is from the set that I won during their blog hop. They are so much fun to color.

This card also covers two challenges. The first is over at A Spoon Full of Sugar. They are celebrating their first birthday so the challenge over there is to create anything for a celebration. This card is for a boys birthday.

The second challenge is a sketch over at Friday Sketchers. I love this sketch. It was so much fun. I didn't intentionally plan on having the second square overlap the card base but it happened and I love how it turned out.

Color Throwdown #36

Happy Friday everyone!!! WoooHooo, we have made it to the weekend!!! How exciting is that? Nothing special here. The week is winding down and I have had a bunch of time to relax but no desire to craft. I know, I know, how bad is that? This is why. The desert winds have began. We are expecting gusts upwards of 60 mph. Yeah, gotta love it. With that comes my allergies. I usually don't take anything. I hate taking anything. I have migraines I and try my hardest not to take anything for them as well. But sometimes I just can't do it anymore and force myself to take some Tylenol or Excedrin just to be able to function again. Well, I decided to try some new allergy medicine because the other wasn't working. I had a bad allergy attack last week so I took something, yeah, I just fell asleep instead. This passed weekend I tried a "trial" size of another brand. That one puts me to sleep too, it helped, but ever since I have been fighting with myself not to fall asleep.
But on to the color challenge. Cambria directed me to a blog called "Color Throwdown". Cambria is a co-owner of a stamp company, "Our Craft Lounge", they are awesome. Marianne from "I Like Markers" is their illustrator. Marianne is an awesome artists and I am so glad I got the chance to meet her and the other owners of Our Craft Lounge.
The challenge was to use 3 colors on your card. The 3 colors are turquoise, orange and pink (Our Craft Lounge's company colors).
This was a really hard one for me because those are so not the colors I am comfortable using. So if you have a pair of sunglasses handy you might want to pull them out.
I am very happy with this card though. It is so not my usual style but I had fun using these wonderful colors. I tell you though, it really was a challenge for me.

More Peanut

Hello All!!! I have been getting to this kinda late. This has been one crazy week and will be until sometime tomorrow. I love Fridays though.

I would have had this up sooner but my oldest had his speech therapy today. I was concerned because on Tues. (he only has to go on Tues. and Thurs.) he didn't do what he was supposed to and didn't get his sticker reward. I worked with yesterday and made sure he understood that we were there for him to work and not to play around.

I was very happy to see him walk out with not one, but two stickers today. I guess even though it is more work and frustration for me, I need to make a point to sit with him and correct him when he mispronounces a word.

But you guys didn't come here to hear about my son's speech problems and my woes in working with him, right?

I splurged and got some goodies from Papertrey Ink. I keep hearing everyone talk about how great the Raspberry Fizz is and I just love the polka dot basics stamp set so I got those instead of the new stuff that came out.

I copied Geny Cassidy's idea of making your own a patterned paper with the single polka dots in the set and using a bunch of colors.

I took 3 of the polka dots at a time and stamped them several times on vintage cream cardstock using lavender moon, spring rain, and raspberry fizz ink. Those are 3 colors I haven't used very often and wanted to try them out. The lavender moon and spring rain are very soft and subtle and the raspberry fizz added a splash of color in it. I love it.

The ribbon is lavender moon and a $1 spool of blue I got at Michael's a while back.

I used "Peanut" again from Our Craft Lounge. He looks so much better than the last time I used him. I used Prismacolor pencils and baby oil to color him in this time. I really like the way it looked. I started out coloring him in with a black colored pencil since I don't have gray but then decided since I used blue in the dots that I would use blue for "Peanut" as well. I just love how it turned out (did I say that already?)

I forgot to mention the flowers. They are the bridal flowers from Michael's and the purple one is colored with a copic marker and I took vintage cream ink and rubbed it on the flower to mute the white of the flower.

Very easy and I really love how it turned out.

Our Craft Lounge

Happy Friday!!! We made it, wooohooo!!!

So, I mentioned a while ago that my mom, sister, niece, and I attended a class here in California where Marianne from Copic Markers led a make and take. At that time there was a sale on the new stamp company called "Our Craft Lounge" so I bought a adorable set (but they are all adorable). The set I bought featured Peanut the Elephant. Oh and by the way, all the images are hand drawn my Marianne.

Okay, so on to the card. My husband happened to mention to me that one of his co-workers mentioned he had a birthday last week but didn't tell anyone. Well, being a card marker I could not let someone go without making them a birthday card. I know it is already a week late but better late than never right.

Okay, so like I said my hubby is military so his co-worker is a "young" guy. I made the card assuming that he would take it home and throw it in the trash. I was shocked to find out that my hubby's co-worker thought it was great and was surprised to find out that I made it and left it on his desk.

Okay so for some details. I went simple and started by stamping "Peanut" on PTI white cardstock and colored him in with copic. Now, my supply of copics are small so I did what I can with him. I am not happy with the fact that I had to use so much ink to dull the "red" in his ears that it bled onto his ear but I was okay with it being that way for this purpose (again, i thought he was going to just throw it away anyway).

I used scrap paper for the rest, I can't remember the name of the colors of the rest of paper. The sentiment was cut out using a spellbinders dies and a coaster chipboard.

Inside, I stamped some balloon's and another sentiment from the set that says, "Hope your b-day doesn't blow" it was so cute and hubbies co-worker got a kick out of it.
