Motivet/last post

Well, everyone, it looks like Christmas is just around the corner.  Tomorrow is Christmas Eve.  My how the time flies.  I am excited to have the preperation part over and done with.  It is so daunting and tiring on my body.  I am also so excited to see the excitement on my boy's faces when they wake up in the morning and see all the presents they get to open.  Because, believe me, they will have a TON of presents.  They are lucky and have so much family that loves them that they are never wanting for presents.
So for my last post before Christmas I am showing you a non-Christmas card.  I was thinking I may have got you guys burnt out on Christmas projects.  This card is for the Motivet challenge.  It is a sketch.  So fun to do, I love sketch challenges.  It takes the hardest part for me out of the challenge, the rest is just fun.
I used an image my mom let me stamp from some she had, this one is called "Hilda on an innertube".
The paper is from a mat pad I got a while back from me and my big ideas.  The cardstock is from PTI and is dark chocolate.  Most of the rest is just scraps I had lying around and hardly use.  I know the colors are all wacky but I did have so much fun putting this card together.

Well, I think I will leave ou with that.  So, Merry Christmas to you and yours!!!  May the spirit of Christmas reside in us all.  And if I don't get a chance to come back before New Year's...Happy New Year!!!  May 2010 bring you happiness that you all so very much deserve.

Gift card

Hello everyone!!!  Can you believe we are only a couple days away from Christmas.  My mother-in-law will be here before you know it.  Too bad we are not as prepared for her arrival as we had hoped.  There were a few glitches in our day yesterday but I think they are resolved and we are ready to prepare for the holidays.  Not to mention I still need to get a couple of things for my youngest son's birthday.  He will be 4 on the 30th but since my mother-in-law won't be here on the 30th we are celebrating his birthday on the 27th after church.  That doesn't leave me much time to do some shopping and I really do not want to fight the last minute Christmas shoppers.
Today I want to show you a gift card holder I made using one of Lauren's templates.  Her templates really are easy to use.  Maybe a bit confusing the first time but after that they make complete sense and are so easy to duplicate.  I am going to leave you with few words because honestly, I am at a loss for them.  Besides, it may look like a lot of detail on this but there really isn't.

I hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday and I am hoping to see you all back here tomorrow.
Thanks for stopping by!!!

Whimsy chips

Good morning everyone!!!  I hope you are ready for Christmas because this is the week it will get here.  Can you believe that Friday is Christmas?  It seemed to have snuck up on us yet again.  I really hope that I can get a better head start on the festivities than I did this year.  Of course that is what I hope every year.
Today is Monday, obviously, which means it is time for another wonderful Whimsy challenge.  This challenge with last for 2 weeks.  That means you have until Jan 4th 2010 to post your creative project.  Can you believe it, 2010, this is the last challenge of the year, simply craziness.
For this challenge you are to use chipboard.  You don't have to use chipboard on every square inch of your project, just one piece will do.
I have gotten burnt out on cards so when I sat down to make my project for this challenge I decided to do a wall hanging/ornament/whatever you want it to be.

I started off with some chipboard I had in my stash and cut it out using my biggest labels die that I got for my birthday.  Since the chipboard was "naked" and I wanted it clothed I cut out some enchanted evening paper using the same die and glued it on.
I used some more vintage paper from making memories and used a Martha Stewart punch to give it some lace feel.  From there I just used some silver paper in my stash to mat the adorable snowman on.  He was colored using both copic markers and koh-i-noor pencils.  The flower and buttons are also chipboard I had lying around in my desk.  The sentiment is from PTI but suits the cutie snowman so well.  I just love how it turned out.  So different than my usual stuff, in my opinion.  I am trying to jump out of my comfort zone here lately and so far it is suiting me, I think.

Sledding to the end

Good morning all!!!  Today I get to show you a project that I am SO proud of.  But it has nothing to do with me and everything to do with Lauren Meader.  She is amazing and I have loved all her templates she has offered through Papertrey Ink and plan to follow her in her new endeavor as a business owner.
My mom guided me to a project she posted on her blog a while ago here and I just fell in love.  This is why.  My husband grew up in Connecticut, you know, cold, snow, winter, etc.  So, as a child he had a sled to go sledding.  It is one of the older ones, wood and metal.  My mother-in-law kept it and now we have it.  Actually now that I think of it it would be nice to pull it out of the garage and use it as some sort of decoration during this holiday season.
I so wanted to make this sled for my son's teacher.  I just knew it would make an awesome gift tag for her other gifts.  Unfortunately Lauren was not able to get this project/template released in time for me to use it.  So what did I do?  Well, I sat down in front of my computer with Lauren's pictures of the sled on my desk and attempted to recreate her sled.  The dimensions are off and it isn't quite like Lauren's but I am so proud of it.  I still plan on getting the template when it becomes available because I am sure hers will be so much easier to follow as I know I will be making more.

Again, I got to use my awesome new nestabilities die and I think it looks awesome.  I am SO happy with house this turned out.  Thank you Lauren for making this possible.

Teacher appreciationc card

Good morning all!!!  Can you believe the week is just about over and Christmas is around the corner.  This coming week I am going to have to step up my game and get a LOT more things done.  My mother-in-law will be flying into town for a few days to help us celebrate Christmas.  It should be lots of fun.  I am hoping that even though we have a short amount of time with her that we can show her a few things.  This will be her first trip to California and possibly her last if we move like we hope we can.  We don't want the desert of California to the only thing she sees and remembers.
Anyway, I digress as usual.  I am actually going to show you the card I made for my son's teacher today.  It isn't my favorite but it is still nice.  Since I was running out of time I didn't have an opportunity to do something spectacular.  Besides, I think my mojo was seriously running out by the time I got to this card.  I went searching for a layout I liked because, like I said, my mojo was low.  I rememered seeing a card on Lauren's blog that I really loved, the simplicity was exactly what I needed.  This is hers and this is mine.

I started with aqua mist card stock to match the box I made as well.  I also used kraft paper and the layer is vellum.  I got two of my birthday presents on this project so that was fun.  One of which I forgot to mention when I listed my gifts a week or so back.  The first one that is obvious is my nestabilities dies.  That was so much fun have a new shape to use.  The other is my bow-easy that my mom got me.  At first it looked very difficult.  I looked at the directions and they were no help but then I saw a website listed for a video tutorial.  That is exactly what I need so I headed on over there.  Yeah, no help what so ever.  The lady in the video talked through it all so fast and the camera wasn't even on what she was doing so I was still lost.  But then I saw another title of a video so why not, I clicked on that.  Now that WAS helpful.  I figured it out, messed with a few sizes and voila, i have a very beautiful bow.  Thanks mom!!!
Well, I think that is about it for this one.  Tomorrow I should have the final little treat I made for my son's teacher.
Just a heads up as well.  If you look on my side bar there is a blog candy give away.  Fussy and Fancy are on their second blog candy.  Just click on the picture and it will lead you to the instructions to enter to win all the goodies in the picture.

Teacher holiday appreciation gifts

Good morning everyone!!!  I am actually writing this up on Tuesday night.  My oldest usually goes to kindergarten in the afternoon which leaves me a bit of time to post in the morning.  Well, tomorrow is a minimum day for the school since it is the last day before holiday break.  That means I have to have my son at school before 8am.  Yeah me!!!  I am so excited!!!  Actually I am not.  Trying to get my boys ready in time to get my oldest to school in the afternoon is like pulling teeth.
Anyway, since tomorrow is the last day I wanted to do something nice for his teacher since she has been great with my son and he just adores her and loves going to school.  To keep you guys in suspense and to give you some eye candy for more than one day I am going to post one project at a time.
Today I am showing you a gift box that I pretty much copied from Nichole Heady.  I am going to admit that a few of, well, all of the projects that I made I got ideas from other people and almost copied completely.  I will be sure to give credit where credit is due though.  Today it is Nichole.

The trees were watercolored green because I didn't have a solid tree stamp.  I used some stickles on the snow and on the stars in the sky.  I have never really been good about doing up scenes but after looking at Nichole's I think this one turned out wonderfully.  Also, I used a "My Timeless Template" from PTI and Lauren Meader.
I can't think of anything else to add to this so I am going to close.  I hope you all are having a wonderful week.
Thanks for stopping by!!!

Another late challenge post

As I mentioned before and gave a link to, my mom introduced me to a stamp company called Motivet.  Their images are absolutely precious.  Well, she did a challenge with them and after going to their blog decided to participate as well.  But I only had a little bit of time to do it.  Once I got going on the card I realized I wasn't going to have time to finish it and post it in time so I just took my time after that.
This is what I came up with.

I think this little angel is absolutely precious and all their images are so fun to color.  I used some new paper I picked up during a shopping trip with my mom.  It is from Making Memories and we got it at a HUGE discount.  I don't think I would have picked it up if it wasn't on sale.  It is called "Vintage Findings".  I just love the vintage feel of anything.  I swear I was born in the wrong generation but I know the big man upstairs knows more than I do.
The base and mats are all made with kraft cardstock.  The patterened paper are both from vintage finding.  I used a Martha Stewart punch for the lattice or lace feel to the strip.  The buttons are both PTI and cheapos from Wal-Mart.  The snowflakes I have had for a while and probably got at Michael's.
The little angel was colored in using koh-i-noor pencils and baby oil.  I also used stickles for her wings and crystal effects for the scissors.  I just love how this card turned out and wish I could have gotten my act together in time to enter it into the motivet challenge.

My first tag

Hello everyone!!!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  Mine was calm and peaceful and just beautiful.  My husband and I spend some time together while my sister watched our boys for us.  It was a special weekend that I will not forget even in the distant future.  I am so glad I had the opportunity I did.
Today I wanted to show you a tag that I made for a Three Clovers Design challenge that I am not sure if I am too later for (I might be but here is the link.  Also I was supposed to make a card and didn't but oh well.  I am going to submit it anyway).  I heard about it at Lorie's blog here.
I used paper that was in my stash so I am not sure where it is from or where I got it.  The tag is pretty self explanatory on that aspect so I won't go into detail.

I made this tag for the challenge but also because my oldest son is in Kindergarten and his last day before Christmas break is this Wednesday.  His teacher sent home a note that on the last day they are going to do a book exchange.  They are to bring in a wrapped book and then they will get another book in exchange.  Unfortunately my son saw the book I bought to exchange and did NOT want to let it get wrapped because he wanted it all for himself.  Also unfortunately, the book was the only one I saw at the store I bought it at and looked at Wal-Mart and again, no book there either.  I think he will change his mind on Wednesday when he gets his new book and would have totally forgotten about it when he gets his book out of his stocking Christmas morning.

Out of my element

Good Wednesday morning everyone!!!  I hope you are all having a wonderful week.  I am slowly but surely checking things off my list of things to get done.
I was hoping to post this sooner but I forgot to take a picture and then forgot to bring my camera to the birthday festivities last Saturday.  I tell you what though, I was spoiled.  My parents bought me an iTop tool with some of the accessories so I can get started making my own brads.  My sister and the fam bought me a labels 8 nestability dies.  I cannot wait to start playing, I just have to wait for some time to play.
My family, the hubby and kids, bought me some great things to prepare for the baby.  Things I wasn't expecting to get, one of which is a Vera Bradley bag.  I will probably end up using that as a diaper bag at least until the baby grows out of needing a diaper bag.
For my sister I made her a cute little purse that I was drawn to thanks to someone else I know online but as far as I know does not have a blog.  Here is the link to the instructions.  Since it has been a long time since I have sewn anything it took me a bit longer than it should have to make this purse but it was fun and now I know how so it should be easy to do again.

Christmas is coming

I cannot believe it has been since last Wednesday that I posted anything.  I do have things to show you it was just one heck of a week last week.  I hope that this week won't be as hectic.  I am sure we will have to do some running around though trying to get things ready for Christmas.  Although, thankfully, we are almost done with our shopping.  Next is getting everything wrapped and in the mail, the things that need to be mailed.
So today is another Whimsy challenge that I was thankfully able to finish in time.  I completely forgot it was my week to participate until my mom mentioned to me that she was working on her project.  I do want to mention to you that as usual you do NOT need a Whimsy image to enter the contest but if you have one we would love to see what you can do with it.  Also don't forget that their special Christmas project contest is going on until Saturday the 12th.  So do not forget to enter.
This weeks challenge is to use die cuts.  I do have a cuttlebug machine but I am lacking in the tools to make die cuts and I don't have a lot of supplies so I struggled for a few minutes.  But then I looked on my desk and saw the cute new Santa image from Whimsy that my mom stamped for me.  So, I began coloring him.  Now it is Santa so I did need to stick to the traditional Christmas colors but did throw in a few more just to liven it up a bit.
I used a petite circle nestie to cut out a chipboard coaster, found a cute heart shaped green die cut I bought a long time ago, I think from Michael's, and then used the sentiment design that my mom cut out for me using her cricut.
I also used the CPS challenge, I think it is for this week.  I will check again and if it is I will be entering it in that as well.

Happy Birthday Tanya!!!

Today is my older sisters birthday.  She is 30-something.  I try not to remember her birthday although I do give her crap about it.  See, she is only one year older than me.  Actually if you go by what we said when we were kids...we are a year, an hour and two minutes apart.  Unfortunately, that means today is also my birthday.  I have realized what people have told me all my life.  The older you get the more birthday's don't count.
If you want to check out my sister's blog go here for some more eye candy.
Also please remember that I have a giveaway going on as well.  Go here for that.  I plan to add more to the goodies than just the card.
Unfortunately I do not have a card ready for her or even a birthday present so it is a good thing we don't plan on celebrating until Saturday.
I do have some eye candy almost ready post for you to see that I hope to have up later today so please come back later and check for that.

Promotion Day!!!

Hello everyone!!!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend.  There is so much going on this week but I do hope to have plenty of things to post for you to see so please check back often to see what may be up.  Since we didn't have very many people enter my giveaway I am going to leave it open for another week.  Just leave a comment on this post and if you have a cute whimsy image please link to it.  They are doing a special Christmas giveaway so please go check it out here.
Today is the day we have been waiting for for quite a while.  My husband, as most of you know, is in the military.  He is enlisted and has been a Staff Seargant for most of our married life.  Today he is being promoted.  He will now be a Technical Seargant and I am so proud of him.  In the Air Force to be promoted to the rank he is and the rank he is being promoted and to Master Seargant (which comes next) you have to study and take a test.  It is very difficult to get promoted because of this, especially since my hubby has difficulty with tests.  I knew he could do this and am so proud of his accomplishments.
I decided that since we get to go to a special promotion ceremony with my boys and my parents that I wanted to make him a card.  He might get a little upset with me at first because I took one of his "stripes" and put it on the card.  I did make sure that I used repositional tape so that we can take it off easily and then get the remnants off so the "stripes" can be sewn on to his uniform.  I hope he likes it.
Of course this promotion comes just in time to help with holiday expenses and of course the new baby.  We couldn't be more happy for all the wonderful stuff we have going on in our lives.  We are truly blessed.

We are all very proud of you sweetheart!!!

Black Friday/CPS Sketch

Hello everyone!!!  I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and/or family.  It was a good day for us.  Fun times with the family and a good football game.  It didn't turn out so great because my hubby and I woke up to prepare for the big Thanksgiving feast at our house only to realize that we lost electricity.  That is fine for some things but after a while electricity becomes important with a house full of people.  So instead we had to switch the festivities to my sister's house so Thanksgiving dinner was later than it normally is.  But it was wonderful and there is nothing more important on Thanksgiving than good food and good company and that is exactly what we got.
Today I wanted to show you a card I made fairly quickly actually.  I just love how it turned out as well.  It is so not my usual colors and that is what is so great about it.  My mom won a contest with Motivet stamps a while back so I stamped some of the images that she won.  They are adorable and so fun to color.  I colored Doraline holding a sunflower.

I wasn't sure how I wanted to put the card together so I looked around and thought that the CPS sketch would be a lot of fun to use for this adorable little squirrel.  There are several elements on this card but it also looks so simple to me.  I just love it.  Still gotta decide who it is gonna go to though.  Plus, the sentiment just seemed to fit the image so perfectly.  I hope to see you back here soon.

Birthday Boy "Knight Connor"

*Updated with card details and a little chat*

Details to follow soon.  I just wanted to get the picture posted so you have some eye candy.

This is the card I made for my son for his birthday party we had on Saturday.  It was a good day with family.  Very quiet.  Maybe a friends party next  year but this year we decided to do a quiet family party again.
I used some aqua mist cardstock (I think, from PTI).  the rest is all basically scraps from the goody bags I made for his class party.
I used PTI polka dot basics and borders and corners monogram edition to make the pattern on the colored scraps of paper.  The Knight Connor from Whimsy was the exact same one I used for the goody bag.  We had a few extras so I just took it off and retaped it onto his card.  My son seemed pleased with it and I was pleased with the fact that I was able to get rid of some scraps instead of just throwing them out or forgetting about them.
There is still plenty of time to enter the giveaway on the post here.  I hope to see your creations soon.

'Tis the season

...for a Whimsy Christmas challenge.  I actually got to participate and had so much fun doing it.  I was able to get a little advice from my mom since she was here.  I also got to play with a new stamp I purchased from Whimsy from the new artist, Crissy.  The most adorable snowman you will ever see.  I am probably going to be getting more from her.  I love the Santa she drew as well.  Thanks to my mom, I have a few of those to play with as well for now.
So, this weeks challenge at Whimsy's challenge blog is to make a Christmas card.  No specific rules after that.  Just anything that says "Christmas" to you.  As usual, you do not need to have a Whimsy stamp to participate but if you do have one we would love to see you use it.
My little snow man was colored using Koh-i-noor pencils and baby oil.  I was just looking at my card and he is pretty self explanatory, in my opinion, but I also know what I did.  If you do have any questions for me though please don't hesitate to leave the question in your comment or you can email me with your question.  I will get back to you with an answer as soon as possible.

I have promised a giveaway a few weeks or a week ago and never delivered thanks to my internet going down.  So, this is what I am going to do.  If you want to win this card with a few other little goodies (I have to figure those out before I can announce it here) please leave a comment on this post and a link to the creation you have made for the Whimsy Christmas challenge and I will pick a winner via random.org next Monday the 30th of November.
So, what are you waiting for, get to making a lovely Christmas card.

Happy 6th Birthday!!!

Today I am a little late because I was volunteering for the first time in my oldest son's kindergarten class.  They had a half day today. His kindergarten is only half day anyway but he goes during the PM schedule.  So today was a little crazy for us.  We had to get up early and get ready for school right away.  I think all in all it went very well.  A friend watched my youngest son so I could spend some time helping out in my son's class.  It was a lot of fun and seeing them have their own little Thanksgiving "feast" of pocorn, fruit and cookies.  There were two classes there since we were combining.  My son's class was the Indians and the other class were the Pilgrims.  It was so cute.
Anyway, today I wanted to share with you the projects I made for my son's class yesterday.  Yesterday my oldest son turned 6 years old.  I am still in shock that he is one year older.  It amazes me how much he is growing and maturing now that he is in school.  I am so proud of his accomplishments and just know that he is going to grow up to be a wonderful man someday.
My son decided that he wanted a Knight on his goody bag tags(?).  It was quite the intricate project but it wouldn't have been so bad if I had gotten started on this part much earlier.  That is my procrastination coming into play here.  I kinda cheapened it up a bit with staples but the morning before I was supposed to take them in I just couldn't get the rope to work the way I wanted.  You will see in the picture.

I am also adding a couple of pictures of my son.

This is the day we brought him home from the hospital.  He was 2 days old in this picture.  The outfit is an outfit my Mother in law made for my husband when he was born to come home from the hospital in.  My youngest son also wore this outfit home from the hospital and now this baby will be coming home in the same outfit.  I just love tradition.

And this is my son on his 6th birthday.  I can't believe how much he has grown and how much of a young man he looks like now.

Whimsy challenge

Oh my gosh!!!  Can you say behind?  I am scrambling to get everything done and still take care of my house.  It just isn't working that well.  But I did get a project done for this weeks Whimsy challenge.  The challenge is to make anything other than a card.  Please go to the blog and check it out and make something wonderful to share with everyone.  Remember, you don't need a Whimsy stamp but if you do have one we would love to see it on your project.
Here is my card:

Birthdays, birthdays, and more birthdays

The end of the year is always been the busiest for my family.  When I married my husband and had my children it only added to the chaos that is the end of the year with holidays and birthdays.
November 7th was my husbands birthday and a very busy one at that.  Today is my Dad's birthday and I couldn't have asked for a better father than the one he was to me and my siblings.
Thursday is my oldest son's 6th birthday.  I cannot believe he will be 6 already because it still feels like he was born only recently.
Today I am going to show you a project I did for my son's kindergarten teacher.  In conversation she mentioned that her birthday was last Wednesday, Veteran's Day.  So on Thursday I spent the morning getting a little something together for her birthday.  For the card I saw the same layout used by Lorie and I loved it.  It is simple, cute and so easy to throw together.  Plus, I just love the PTI "Life" stamp set.
The basket was already made a long time ago.  It has been sitting on my desk taking up space for a while and it just happened to match the colors I used on her card.

I'm back with Whimsy

Hello everyone!!!  I hope you had a wonderful week.  It has been crazy here not having the internet.  I really didn't realize how much I depend on the internet until I didn't have it.  I was going crazy.  But we are back for now and hope we don't have any more complications for a while.
When I realized my internet was down I was getting ready to log on here and show you a card I made for the Whimsy challenge.  I was very late in getting it done so I didn't get to have it posted on the Challenge blog but did want to get something done.
There is still a few more days to get a project done.  This week is watercolors.  I haven't done much watercoloring but new I needed to challenge myself.  If you want to join just watercolor something, anything, and put it on a project.  We would like to see your Whimsy images if you have them but if you don't please don't hesitate to join us anyway.
Here is my project, a digital image that was designed for a good cause.

I didn't mention this earlier but my laptop is not getting internet access because our router is having issues so I don't have access to some of my editing programs.  I hope you don't mind settling for a very simple image.

Spread the Love Blog Hop

*This post will remain at the top of my blog until the 9th at the end of the prize giveaway.  Also remember you can send Jaimie a card at anytime.*

Happy Monday!!!  I hope everyone had a great weekend and a wonderful and safe Halloween.  I will do another post about Halloween.  I want to make sure that this blog hop gets the notice it deserves.  Here is a snippet that explains most of it.

"On October 4th, 4 teenagers armed with knives broke into a home in a small town in New Hampshire. Alone and sleeping inside were a mother and her 11 year old daughter. These 4 boys broke into this home with the intent to rob and kill anyone inside. They stabbed the mom, Kimberly Cates, to death and left her daughter, Jaimie, for dead in their driveway. It was a completely random act, their home was chosen only due to its secluded surroundings."
Our hope is that everyone hopping around today will stop for a moment and think about Jaimie and her father and what life must be like for them now. One moment in time has changed their lives forever. We are asking that everyone reading this message please take a moment to make a card and send it off to Jaimie. You can make something very simple or much more involved, but please share some words of hope and love and let her know that people do care and want the best for her.

The address to send cards to Jaimie is on my sidebar with the button about the blog hop.  There has also been a special blog set up and Jaimie and her story.  Please go here and check it out.  I know they are doing some special giveaways with some great sponsors.

If you came here first please go to Katharina blog here.

The card I made for Jaimie is in conjunction with the Whimsy stamp challenge for this week.  The challenge is round and round.  Use as many circles as you can or want to.  I have also added a heart for Jaimie as requested by Denise.  Here is my card.

From here you will want to go check out Leslie's blog here.  Thank you so much for taking a moment to look here and hopefully you can continue the blog hop and join in on the festivities.  This is a sad thing that happened and cards are a small gesture but they really do mean a lot in uplifting spirits.

Thank you for stopping by!!!
