Cutesy meets classic

Happy Tuesday everyone!!! I hope you had a great day yesterday to start off the work week.

Mine was a little crazy since I had my boys back. If you remember my sister was kind enough to take the boys for most of the week. It helped with a doctor's appt. I had and plus my husband and I got to be a couple again. It was really nice. It just took a while to get back into the swing of being mommy again. My boys really are great and doing well. It amazes me how much it seems they grow in such a short amount of time. Both my boys seem to be speaking a little more clearly than they were when they left. Plus, they seem to behave just a tad bit better. Of course they did find every opportunity to fight over toys or just fight with each other. It is a sibling thing, not going to get over that one.

I know you all have your own woes and don't really care to hear about mine so I will get on with the card.

While the boys were gone I got to get into my scrap area quite a few times and were somewhat pleased with the outcome.

I had been wanting to ink up the cute bees from C.C. Designs set "Bear Hugs". The hard part is trying to think of a layout and idea to do with it. Then I saw my cuttlebug embossing folders. I pulled out my flower set and embossed the card base front (SU! kraft cardstock).

The yellow is PTI lemon tart and the PP is PTI as well. On the yellow cardstock I inked the edges with Palette brown and the PP was inked first with the brown and then sponged with PTI lemon tart. The flower is from PTI "Floral Frenzy" and was inked using PTI summer sunrise, the center is palette brown and the stem/leaf is Palette landscape.

The bee was colored using copic markers and then the wings were glittered up with diamond stickles.

I wanted to leave space for a sentiment when I chose to use this card. I always like to leave the card open like this so when I needed a card I can just add a sentiment real quick.

I am really pleased with the turnout of this card. I wasn't sure how well the classic flower and the whimsical bee were going to work together but I think it looks great. I hope you do too.

Have a great Tuesday and as always, thanks for stopping by!!!

More Snowmen

I really need to come up with something crafty for the titles. I am so original when it comes to stuff like this.

I certainly hope that you guys had an awesome weekend. Mine was busy but nice and kid free so I got to relax a little with my hubby and *gasp* we went and saw a movie. We had to pull a name out of a hat because we had no idea what was out. We ended up watching "Eagle Eye" and we had no idea that it was opening weekend. Ugh!!! But the movie was AWESOME!!! I seriously would recommend it to anyone who likes suspense. So good. I had a few moments there because of the car chase but I am still so glad I went and saw it.

On to my card. When I did my scrapbook page I also wanted to try a card with the "made of snow" PTI stamp set.

This is what I came up with. I started out with some kraft paper. Stamped my snowman on PTI white cardstock. I was going to flock the snowman again but wanted to try something new so I didn't get stuck in a rut.

I colored him in with my purple copic markers and used some gray to add some dimension to the snowman.

The buttons on the snowman are beads I got in a kit a while back from my mom and sister's LSS.

I like the idea of blue and purple together so I used the blue gingham ribbon from the same kit and blue paper from Leavin' Prints I got a LONG time ago.

I used the crystal snow glitter again for snow and white PTI cardstock torn to the snowy hill. the snowflake stamp was a find at Michael's $1 section. I used my clear glitter pen to make the snowflake sparkle a little and on the sentiment for "snowy" and "frosty". The sentiment was found in the "made of snow" PTI stamp set and the circles were made with my nestabilities. I think that is it for today. Have a great Monday and thanks for stopping by!!!

Snowy scraps

Happy Friday!!! Yeah, it is Friday, time to relax, yeah right, hehehe.

Sorry I have been MIA the last couple of days. Things have been crazy. Crazy and quiet actually. My sister was kind enough to take my boys for a few days. As much as I love those guys I was ready to strangle them (not really, I am not that bad. I just needed a break). Plus, I had a doctor's appointment yesterday morning and it made it easy to go without having to worry about the boys.

I got some goodies from PTI last Monday. I was so excited. I picked up the ink pad of Poppy Red and the wonderful "Made of Snow" stamp set. I couldn't wait to get started and play with this set. I do have to admit that this set does have a learning curve. I made a couple of creations with this set. I have decided to show you my least favorite of the two first so you can get excited with me about the second.

My first project is a scrapbook page. We have several pictures of my boys playing in the snow being that we used to live in Alaska. I took the snowman and dressed him up like I thought a traditional snowman would look. I took Lauren Meader's idea and tore some paper to make a "snowy" hills for the snowman. I also had some Crystal Snow I got from Michael's (I thought it was white glitter). I glued some on the paper snow with glue. The snowman was stamped on kraft paper and then I used white fun flock to make him soft.

The trees were paper pieced. I decided to use 3 trees, 1) Alaska has a lot of pine trees, 2) I have two boys and look forward to someday bringing home another baby (that is why I have 2 tall trees and one small tree). I also took some of the crystal snow and put that on the tip top of the trees. Lastly I want to mention that on the top right corner of the page I stamped a snowflake (Michael's $1 spot find) using versamark ink and used some EP to make it sparkle. Now the only thing I have left to do is put the picture of my boys on the page.

I think that is it for the page. If I missed anything let me know and I will post it.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great Friday and an even better weekend. Believe it or not even though we won't have the boys this weekend it is going to be fairly busy. My hubby has a class he has to take for the cub scouts (he is a cub scout den leader for our church) and I get to do some window shopping while wasting time. Saturday night we are going to have our usual date night (when we get to have one) and getting something to eat and going to watch some movie (we don't know yet because we aren't sure what is even in the theaters anymore).

Again, thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.

Alzheimer's giveaway and my card

Happy Tuesday!!!

I am sure most of you have heard about the heart to heart giveaway. Cammie from "My Blog" has one great blog candy. Not only is it worth over $1000 worth of stamping products and goodies made by some of the best stampers out there, but it also helps some great people.

Check out her blog on the link above and see how you can enter. I did. And here is the card that I decided to make for it.

I call it the tree of life. I made it pretty small. It is a 4X4 card. I also used Lauren's Saturday Sketch here.
The card base is a 4X8 piece of cardstock with a 3/4" piece of sweet blush scallop, a 3X3 piece of crafter's select from PTI, the PP is from Joann's and the blue was cut out with my nestabilities using Leavin' Prints paper. I used PTI's "Father knows best" stamp set. All of the paper was sponged on the edges with SU! mellow moss ink. The tree was stamped on the blue paper using Palette brown and the leaves were stamped with spring moss and I used some yellow cat's eye chalk ink to make it look like the leaves were changing colors.
What you can't see is on the inside. I took the striped PP and pasted a strip on the side and stamped "thank you" in Palette brown.
Oh yeah, the brads were from Target's $1 section and the ribbon is from Michael's.
I am so happy with how this turned out. So cool. I am looking forward to mailing this to a great place. Cammie gave an address to send your cards to the caregivers at the place her grandmother was taken care of.
I want to say that this is near and dear to my heart. My Father-in-Law was diagnosed with Alzheimer's about 7 years ago (around the time that I met him) and lost his battle this passed March. It was very hard hearing the things my Mother-in-law and Sister-in-law had to deal with taking care of him. What was really hard was seeing how my husband dealt with his health issues and ultimately his death. My heart just sank when we got the phone call that things weren't looking good for him. I hope that everyone out there decides to do something for the great people that take care of our loved ones. The address for the caregivers of Cammie's late grandmother are on her website.
Also I wanted to mention that Cammie designed a stamp set for Gina K. Designs and has decided to donate ALL of her proceeds from the sells of the set to Alzheimer's research.
If nothing else who can resist the great prizes that are going to be given away. Let us all remember those we love always.
Have a great Tuesday and thanks for stopping by!!!

C.C. Designs

Happy Monday to you all!!! I really hope that your weekend was great. Mine was good. Nothing too busy but we didn't stay home and mope either. We actually got to spend Saturday with my parents and my sister and her family. Very nice. My boys actually adore their grandparents.

The craft part was so much fun. I got some goodies in the mail and had to play right away. I have loved so many of C.C. Design stamps and have been fighting with myself to not get any. After the August release ( I think it was August) I couldn't hold back anymore. I had to get these cute bears and bee's. I wanted to go with the set that had the bees because my "real" name is, of course, Melissa. I have since realized that the meaning of my name (which I am so into) is Honeybee, hence the need for the bee stamps, too funny I know but I am dorky like that.

Well, I wanted to play with the bees but ended up inking up the cute little bear instead. I went kinda simple with this one. I just grabbed the paper that was left on my craft table from the picture frame I made for my brother and SIL.

The bear was inked up with cat's eye chalk ink in dark brown and then I used my prismacolor pencils and baby oil to color in the bear. I think that is really the extent of the hard stuff. The rest is just fancy stuff. As always, if you want details feel free to email me and ask. I am always up for answering questions (heaven knows I have plenty of questions myself).

Until tomorrow, thank you so much for stopping by and I certainly hope you saw something you liked.

A wedding gift

It is Friday WoooHooo!!! Can I just say that I am SOOOOO glad it is Friday. I so need the weekend right now, you would not even believe.

I don't know if anyone remembers me saying that I went to my brother's wedding last month. I made a nice card and some thank you cards for them. Well, there was a mishap and the cards got wet and I wasn't able to give the either. I didn't even know they got wet until we were leaving to go to the wedding so I didn't even have time to go buy them a card, ugh the horror hehehe.

I finally got their wedding gift done. It took me this long to find out what I wanted to do for them and then do it.

I found a nice frame at Wal-mart pretty cheap and then spruced it up with a little of my style. I know it is very "girlie" but that is their colors. She chose to have her girls wear pink and my brother was wearing a pink vest and bow tie. Now all I have to do is print out some of the pictures from the wedding and throw it in the frame and then I can finally mail it to them almost a month late, hehehe

It is late and I am tired from fighting a headache so I am going to be very non-talkative tonight. If you want some deets I am more than willing to give you the answers, just email me the questions. I hope you all have a great weekend planned and thanks for stopping by!!!

10 minute card

...and it shows. I had a busy evening again last night and that is when I usually do all my crafting. So when my husband and I got the boys in bed I ran to my craft room and through this card together. While I am not completely satisfied with how this card turned out I am not totally unhappy with it either.
I wanted to use my Billy stamp so I went with "boy" colors. This card is made completely from scrap paper. I have so much scrap paper that I need to start using it. Since this card was made from scraps I have no idea where the blue and red cardstock is from. The kraft is SU! and the PP is Leavin' Prints. Does anyone even remember Leavin' Prints? They used to be a scrapbook supply company like Creative Memories but within the year I found out that they went out of business. It is too bad because I really liked their stuff.
I found this piece of blue that was already cut to 8 1/2 X 7 1/2 so I just scored it at 4 1/4 to make my long card.
I took my red paper and cut it smaller by a 1/4" and then used my cuttlebug paisley embossing folder and embossed it.
Then I just the PP and cut a piece for an accent and made the kraft paper a 1/4" larger. I had this extra piece of kraft so I decided to use it for the picture. Again I was going to use my Billy stamp but instead grabbed my Pond Life set from PTI. I stamped the lily pad in Palette landscape but then realized it didn't "match" the rest of the card so that is why my frog is blue and the dragonfly is red. I don't know if you get it but the frog was supposed to look like he just jumped off the lily pad to eat the dragonfly. Do frogs eat dragonflies?
The ribbon is from Target's $1 section and the white accents are from my white gel pen. I hope you liked it. Thanks for stopping by and have a great Thursday!!!

Some what finished card box

Happy Wednesday!!! Hope you had a great Tuesday. Tuesday is always better than Monday but still so tough. It is hard for me to get back into the swing of things after having a weekend to just relax and be lazy.

But WOOOHOOO!!! I basically finished the card box. I say basically because I didn't do any tags and such. I just left those two parts open because I don't do tags much and just figured I can keep it open until I decide what I want to use those sections for.

All I needed to do was spruce up the inside a bit so I took my ladybug dotted trail from PTI's little lady stamp set and stamped it twice on either side of the open box using chalk ink in dark brown (the second one on each side was not re-inked, just stamped once and then a second time so the second trail is slightly duller). Then I used my smaller butterfly from Verve's Petals and Stems stamp sets in PTI Plum pudding ink to stamp all flying trail.

To make the Address book I took some paper I had from a journal I haven't altered yet and cut the paper to 5 X 3 1/2. Then I cut the DP down to 5 1/2 X 3 1/2. Scored them all and punched 2 holes in the edge and put brads in them. For the label I took some kraft paper and inked the edge with the same brown ink for the flying trail. Then I took some PTI plum pudding cardstock and stamped the envelope image on it with the same brown as before. I got the stamp while on vacation in Connecticut so I can't tell you who it is from. I can't even remember the store I bought it at.

Since I don't actually have a alphabet stamp set I just took a pen and wrote "Addresses" by hand. I hate my writing but I had to do something, right? hehehe

Well, I believe that is it. Simple and so cool :P

I love it.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great Wednesday!!!

Nothing crafty

Happy Tuesday guys!!! I hope that you had a good Monday. Mine was crazy. My boys seem to think that Mondays are the days to make my life miserable. I am not sure what it is but that is what they do.
With all of that said and lack of pictures I am sure you have realized that I don't have anything pretty to show you today. I was hoping to get into the craft room early and get something posted quickly but no such luck. I had to get the boys and I ready for my son's speech therapy today. As it is I have only a few more minutes before I have to leave so this is going to be short as it is.
I am sorry. I will do my best to get in the craft room today and get something pretty for you tomorrow.
Thanks for stopping by!!!

Last card from the 6X6 challenge

Happy Monday!!! Hope you all had a great weekend. It was nice here, hot but we didn't have much to do so we were able to relax and enjoy some "quiet" time. I say it like that because around my house (with 2 small boys) it is never quiet.

I promised and here it is. Out of the 4 cards from the 6X6 challenge this one has to be my favorite. Still used from scraps, except the card base, just like the rest. I had a challenge with the butterfly. I was hoping to use glitter that I got but for some reason it wasn't sticking like I wanted it to. So I tried using some amethyst EP but didn't like how it bubbled and didn't have a smooth look to it, and still wasn't solid like I wanted. I ended up stamping it on the vanilla cardstock (the reverse of the chocolate PP from PTI) using Plum Pudding ink and then using my glitter pen to glitter it up.

Let me see...I can't think of anything else to say about the card so I will leave you before I bore you hehehe.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great Monday!!!

My son and a card

Happy Friday!!!

I know I promised yesterday that I was going to post a picture of my son and his project that he did. I am horrible doing things sometimes.

I finally did get pictures of my son with his craft yesterday so I am posting it now. Thanks to Lorie I was reminded about what yesterday was all about. I know, how could I forget. But I didn't forget about the event just that yesterday was the anniversary. Before I had to take my son to his speech class I decided to have him sit down and make a flag to hang outside our house. He loves to do crafts and we had our flag stolen while on vacation several months back (we think it was stolen because it was hanging from our house and screwed into a pole, couldn't have flown off, right?)

This is what we did.

The last picture is of him and his usual pose. Drives me crazy. He actually told me today that he loves to make things. It is great. I like it too but sometimes it drives me crazy that he likes it so much.

Now on to my card. Again, another card made using Julee's 6X6 challenge. There is one more so we are almost done than I will work on getting the box finished. Again, fairly self explanatory and I am at a loss for words today so if you have questions feel free to email me.

Have a great Friday and weekend and thanks for stopping by!!!

Card #2

Happy Thursday!!! I am so glad that this week is flying by or is it just me? It is strange how I feel like the week is going fast even though I have been sick all week, basically.

If you haven't seen I have another post that posted late on Wednesday. If you haven't seen it please check it out.

This post has the second card from Julee's 6X6 PP Challenge here. What you can't see is that I stamped the same verve butterfly on the base of the card and clear embossed them. Also, stupid me, when I made the flower panel I wasn't thinking about the size of the card and bad it just a tad to big. Thankfully it isn't that bad and I can get away with it.

Two other things, the other, smaller, purple flower is a brad a got a long time ago and can't even remember where or what brand. The other brads (butterfly) on the flower panel, well, they are brads, aren't they cute? hehehe

Okay, that is about it. Hope you have a great Thursday and thanks for stopping by!!!

ETA: On this important day in our nation's history will we please remember the men, women, and children who lost their lives 7 years ago and support the men and women who help make this country safer (military, firefighters, and policemen and women, we also have all the doctors, nurses and emt men and women who fight to keep us all alive) Thank you everyone!!!
I have a little project that my oldest son and I did for today I will be posting it later.

Card #1

Wow!!! I am really late getting this one on. I am so sorry. My family came down with a cold right before our trip to Kansas for my brother's wedding (everyone but me). My husband was the only one that was still fighting with a cold while in Kansas but seemed to be getting better towards the end. Then my youngest son ended up with a runny nose just as we get home. Guess what? My husband starts the cold all over again and now guess who is fighting a cold, yep, I am. I hardly get sick but when I do I am down for the count. The bad thing about this cold is not only do I have a head cold but I have developed another migraine. This one is wanting to stay around for a while. I am pretty much down with it but I am got some serious nausea from this cold that is still wanting to keep me down. I really hope this is no indication of what the cold "season" is going to be like this year.

On to the card. Since I made my card box I needed cards to put in it, right? Well, I am not done with the box yet but wanted to get started on the cards. I saw a while back that Julee put a "tutorial" up about making 4 cards with one piece of 6X6 patterned paper. Okay, so you need more than that one sheet up paper but it is an awesome idea so I went with it. Plus I have some awesome PP from PTI that I couldn't' wait to get and haven't hardly used.

One thing I want to mention about the card and the rest is self-explanatory. The "butterfly" on the sentiment piece is made from the bridal flowers from Michael's, colored with copic markers and what you can't see very well is I took my brown copic marker and drew some antennae for the butterfly and used my pearls as the tips.

I really like how it turned out and plan on making the other 3 for my box.

Have a great Wednesday and thanks for stopping by!!!

Missy
ETA: I realized I forgot to add the link to Julee's site where she showed us how to make the cards with one piece of patterned paper.
Plus if you haven't checked out the PTI website I would suggest you do. Nichole has come up with a great winter set.

The card box

First off, Happy Tuesday!!! Today has to be better than yesterday, right? I don't know about you guys but Mondays are horriffic for me. I don't know what it is but my boys seem to plan all weekend to determine what they are going to do to make my day "fun". I am glad it is Tuesday and hopefully we got all the bugs out.
Today my oldest goes to speech therapy. He isn't bad but needs some help with pronounciation more than anything. We are working on getting him into the speech/preschool program they have in our school district. If he gets accepted (it isn't really being accepted but needs to do some testing to see if the program will benefit him) then instead of going to see his speech therapist he has now he is going to be bussed to a local school and actually have a preschool environment but also focus on his speech. I think he will do wonders there. I look forward to fighting, if I have to, to get him in and learning in a school enviornment, that is what he needs the most, at least that is what I think.
Anyway, as usual I digress. If you remember in a previous post I mentioned a card box that Lorie made on her blog. I couldn't find the template and the nice lady that Lorie is, she emailed me and offered to email another link to me. Fortunately I didn't need her to do that work for me because my sister saw my post and remembered seeing the instructions before, found them and emailed them to me. I will see if I can figure out how to post that file here in this post.
Let's see. For the box I used gray cardstock (not sur the company, maybe Joann's) and some PP I got from Joann's for the top. Unfortunately we cut up the paper and you can't see the beautiful pattern on the paper. The ribbon is PTI lavendar moon and the butterfly stamp (Verve stamp, flutter by) was stamped in PTI plum pudding. I used my clear glitter pen on the butterfly wings and my pearls from Michael's again.
The butterflies on the box were stamped using versamark ink and all the edges were inked using PTI lavendar moon.
I think that is it. I started constructing the inside (the pen holder, stamp holder) but need to finish with the cards, tags, and address book. When I get those done I will show them to you. Until then I hope you like what you see so far.
Have a great Tuesday and thank sfor stopping by!!!
Missy

ETA: I can't figure it out, if someone knows how to add a file to a post let me know. If you want the instructions please email me and I will get them to you. I wish I knew how so I can credit the person who made the instructions.

Another mojo card

Hope you are having a great weekend. I have another card to show you since I missed so much last week.

Remember when I said my new niece was celebrating her 5th birthday yesterday? Well, stupid me didn't make her a card yet. That doesn't make a good precedent for the aunt that I am going to be to her. But I hope I can make up for it with this card.

Since it is late I remembered a card I saw a while back with a turtle and it being so late. That is when I remembered that the PTI Pond Life stamp set has a cute little turtle. So I went with that and the sketch from Julee's Mojo Monday this week.

Today was a nice relaxing day. That is true enough but unfortunately I was attacked by those horrible migraines that I get too often for my taste. I really can't think right now so I am going to go. I hope you like the card.

I hope you continue to have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by.

Target stamps?!?! and Mojo Madness

Happy Saturday and Happy Birthday to my sister, Carrie (I will keep her age a secret because I think she will kill me even though I am older) and my new niece, Cassidy who is turning the ripe old age of 5!!! Wish I could be there to celebrate with you both but alas, I can't be in two places at once, let alone 3.

WooHoo!!! I am posting on Saturday because I missed so much this passed week. So sorry about that but nothing comes between me and family hehehe.

Okay so I sat down to make a card box seen on Lorie's blog. I found the post and read where she got the template and then realized that the template has to be bought or it was a class or something so no go on the card box. Oh well.

But now what do I make. I need to make something. The boys were down and relaxing and I had some free time AND I needed to make something to post for everyone here.

Then I remembered that Julee is having her monthly/weekly mojo madness contests. I say both because monthly she gives away stamps to the winners but she does the mojo sketches every Monday.

Being as it is the first of the month her free stamp giveaway is under way. This is what I came up with.

I was in Las Vegas on Thursday to take my SIL to the airport after her month long stay with us. My DH and sons love Bass Pro Shops so we stopped in there. Well, there is a Target down the street so I had to go there. I was actually looking for Book #3 of the Twilight series in paperback but can only find the hardcovers (2x as much, not my deal) anyway I went to the $1 section and saw a couple of nice stamps for fall. I thought, a dollar, gotta try them out. I am very impressed on how well they stamped. Worth it in my opinion.

So, if you want the deets feel free to email me. I have to get going and finish up some chores that are calling my name since being home.

Thanks for stopping by and have a GREAT weekend!!!

Vacation pics

My family after the ceremony
This is what my oldest was doing while they were taking pictures and cutting the cake. He kept saying, "Dude, I want some cake". It was really just too funny.
This is what my youngest was doing while waiting for cake. He also kept taking his shirt off. I think he did it about 4 times. Thank goodness everyone just thought it was cute. I thought it was quite embarrassing.
The happy wonderful couple.
This is what my boys were doing while the pictures were being taken.
It was really a fun time. I am so glad that we got the opportunity to go there and meet up with a lot of my family for a happy occasion.
Hopefully I will be able to get into the craft room tomorrow and finally show you something craft related. So sorry I have been away lately. I am planning to stay home for a LONG time now and settle back into normal life :)
Thanks for stopping by.

Back in Cali

We made it to Kansas and back. What a trip it was. It was fun and the wedding was just wonderful. It was so nice to see some family again for a good occasion this time. Last time I saw them it was for a funeral.
Of course, this time my Grandmother ended up in the hospital. She has a bad liver and diabetes. It turns out her ammonia levels were really high and not really responding to pain. She was admitted to ICU and had to be put on a ventilator and wasn't responding to anyone. She basically was in what they were calling an ammonia coma (never heard of that before).
Well, she is doing much better now. I got word that she is off the ventilator and is now talking, asking for people. Such a good sign. I wish we could have stayed there and kept her company but unfortunately real life was calling.
I plan on getting pictures of from our trip tomorrow but I will not have anything crafty as of yet.
Hope you guys had a great weekend and a great start for the week.
Thanks for stopping by.
